Rosehip Teahouse Release Latest Single ‘Regretting It’

Rosehip Teahouse Release Latest Single ‘Regretting It’

Upbeat swirls of indie-pop flutter amongst emotive lyrics. Yet again, Rosehip Teahouse swoon with latest sad bop Regretting It. Gorgeously distressed acoustic guitars marry beautifully against lead vocalist Faye Rodgers’ lovelorn lyrics, as we drift along in this dizzy daydream.

A wonderfully intricate songwriter, Faye is able to wrap sincerity and truths within her music. Yet there is undeniably such a wholesome care to her craft. With lyrics so unwavering and pertinent; carefully and delicately delivered. Such sweetness is derived from a conscientious nature, resulting in the glorious music we are led to behold from Rosehip Teahouse.

The ability to convey sadness with uplifting music is no easy task, certainly if you want to do it well. However, Rosehip Teahouse have balanced this to perfection. In one hand cradling the emotional weight of the track, and in the other ensuring the track remains bubbly, by nurturing its musical sound to light acoustics and a pop of synths.

Little whistles and claps provide Regretting It with a kind-hearted lift. Helping soothe an affirmation in my mind, that despite the majority of us continuing to experience difficult feelings and struggles at the moment. If we try our best to hold onto a little positivity and happiness in our lives, then somehow we can get through this. However small and gentle these little pieces of happiness may be.

Chroma Release Latest Single ‘Head in Transit’

Chroma Release Latest Single ‘Head in Transit’

Spirited and sassy, Welsh rockers Chroma are back with their latest single Head in Transit. Since hearing the powerhouse that is Girls Talk, I have eagerly anticipated and devoured each single released. Head in Transit has certainly not disappointed, in fact I am yearning for more, as my adoration of this band only grows.

Filled with as much fire as I expected. The single begins with a shredding guitar riff, before powerful vocals from front woman Katie Hall scorch their way through. Embodied with all of the richness of her glorious Welsh accent, Katie projects an impressive vocal range, at every possible altitude. Lullaby softness quickly breaks into furious, heartfelt vocals. Screaming through with as much passion as fans had longed for.

Unapologetically loud, Chroma have such a way of clashing together rampant guitars with gorgeous pragmatic vocals. Energetic, with just the right amount of chaos thrown in for good measure. Lead vocalist Katie is surely set to become a fiercely talented icon of female-fronted rock, for the next generation.

Even more admirably so, what really gives Head in Transit the most clout, is the deeply emotional message it conveys. Having written from her own personal experience, Katie has shared in an open letter that the context of Head in Transit surrounds a very poignant time in her life, when she worked in a Call Centre. Emotional phone calls, difficulties of work pressure, cruel bosses, and various other aspects all culminated to have a detrimental impact on her mental health.

In our current time of crisis, Katie has shared Head in Transit in the hopes it will urge people to be more empathetic towards those who are continuing to work hard, ultimately to help us. Treating these individuals as though they are nothing more than just cogs in a machine, is selfish and wrong.

Head in Transit showcases Chroma in all their glory. I applaud Katie for having the courage to share this deeply personal track.

It is undeniable that musically, Head in Transit is brilliant; vocally sublime, rooted and charged by heavy, ‘rock n’ roll’ instrument playing. However, it is ultimately the moving lyrics and fundamental message behind the track that have resonated with me, and I hope others, the most.

Ailsa Tully Releases Latest Single ‘Edge’

Ailsa Tully Releases Latest Single ‘Edge’

Unflinching honesty exposed bare, through the gorgeously soft, yet fiercely brave vocals of Ailsa Tully.

By a brooding bass line, we are drawn into the world of Ailsa Tully. Husky musings pry open latest single Edge as we learn an unexpected truth. On a hazy, glowing twilight of London’s riverbank, an evening full of laughter and life; painstaking anxiety is all that consumes her inner monologue.

As though the river flows calmly, Edge carries the listener along in delicate ripples and waves that never break. Despite the swell of emotive depth conveyed within the track, the music remains soothing and soft. Purposefully evoking a sense of numbness, against racing thoughts and a quickened heartbeat. When a mind cannot stop thinking, there eventually exists an odd state of tranquillity in the confusion, where one is simply lost amongst the chaos. As the brooding bass line plays on and the lull of the nightlife hums steadily in the background. Set against Ailsa’s stunning vocals, the music is reflective of that peculiar state where we feel everything, yet nothing. The surrounding world is meaningless, as our thoughts are all that exist.

The deliberate stark contrast between the music and lyrics is staggeringly beautiful. Creating a dreamlike, lullaby nightmare in Edge, that is nothing short of captivating. As we meander through the song, musical traction is picked up towards the end as the bass heavies and a drumbeat ensues, but an overall eerie sense of calm remains.

Vocally Ailsa heightens her range in parts, as peaks in her worries amplify in reflection of her lyrics. Edge is such a raw, honest, and brave expression of herself, that presents gorgeous vocal capabilities. Ensuring we behold Ailsa Tully as a hauntingly brilliant singer and songwriter.

A deep level of empathy and reflection exists within her music. As listeners, we too feel as though we are wandering the streets of London’s nightlife. Woefully lost amongst the ‘normality’, whilst consumed by our own thoughts and a desperate search for clarity. Yet somehow, we are swallowed by a soft heady calmness that could be our outer appearance to the world. I am completely in awe of the fascinating vocal delivery and backstory of Edge. I cannot wait to hear more from Ailsa Tully.

TJ Roberts Release Latest Single ‘Sinceridipity’

TJ Roberts Release Latest Single ‘Sinceridipity’

Following on from their previous release True Secret to a Happy Life, TJ Roberts are back with yet another slice of indie-rock goodness. Latest single Sinceridipity makes no apologies for its bold entrance, as shredding guitars hurtle us full force into the track. Brooding vocals from front man Tom tear through in the first verse, but there is no hiding from that biting guitar lurking underneath, as the track builds to break in its charged chorus.

Blazing to life, Sinceridipity brands its mark, easily becoming one of the finest indie tracks of the year to date. Instruments stampede in a glorious frenzy but complement one another exquisitely well. The track features Zac White of Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard on guitar. A musical collaboration of dreams, with fellow BBB member Tom Rees having produced the track. The close-knit South Wales Music Community proving yet again, just why it is so good.

Demanding your attention from start to finish. Sinceridipity is undoubtedly a track that needs to be turned up loud. Especially if you really want to enjoy that minute-long guitar solo that powers through to the end. Hushed thought-provoking verses intertwine with the triumphant chorus; showing off impressive combinations of vocal and instrumental prowess that are driving this band to the forefront.

Lyrically Sinceridipity encapsulates adolescence, and those moments of embarrassment, when we somehow find ourselves looking back over an array of fake, but often misinformed, personalities that developed. A time-honoured tradition of barely comprehensible nonsense. Musical inspiration has been sought from the dark-eyed Lou Reed and Eels’ Mark Everett, as well as the rambunctious energy of Dinosaur Jr. and Fugazi.

The track is available to stream on all platforms via Libertino Records.

Lindsay Munroe Releases Latest Single ‘River’ Ahead of EP Release

Lindsay Munroe Releases Latest Single ‘River’ Ahead of EP Release

Lindsay Munroe is a brave a bold lyricist, baring her soul through music. Her previous singles ‘Mirror’ and ‘Split’ resonated with my very core, and I have been eagerly anticipating her next release.

River’ washes over the listener instantly, and is breathtakingly stunning. From its very source, the track is deeply emotive but the vocal delivery from Lindsay is so soothing and tranquil. The most quiet and gentle of her songs to date. The melancholy and heartfelt, ‘River’ finds a way to nestle into your mind and make its home there.

With a heavy emphasis on repeating lyrics, Lindsay is brooding over her pain. The song is slow and winding, allowing us to ponder over our emotions, as well as her own. It is a soulful but soft track. The quiet nature of it is nurturing and not harsh or cutting, despite its emotional heaviness. Instead Lindsay’s vocals convey enough emotion through their almost muted tones, as though they are whispering a secret. It is just enough to invite the listener in.

A songwriter who carves out a part of her heart and places it into the soul of her song.

The lyrics themselves are haunting, as Lindsay conveys such yearning through the depth of her words. Exposing so much of her inner most thoughts and feelings, is once again, admirably brave. Lindsay has such an ability of providing fleeting glimpses into her past, and slight reflections of what may have been, divulging just enough to provoke thought and create in many ways, a story for the listener.

Her self-expression is captivating and certainly makes for a fascinating muse. What I hope I am conveying to you, is that ‘River’ is more than just music and lyrics. It is raw and real, and a slice of Lindsay herself. A songwriter who carves out a part of her heart and places it into the soul of her song. Lindsay’s lyrics are vulnerable and open, however, rather than be deterred by her sheer honesty, Lindsay Munroe is helping it build her.

‘River’ begins with awash of subtle guitar strings and moody vocals. As the song progresses, it also incorporates more elements musically, as drums emerge, and guitars are played a little heavier. Synths and pedals are also used. Although the track is in no way crowded and cluttered with a clash of jarring instruments. Instead instruments simply blend in to complement one another. Lindsay’s vocals and the overall tension of the track heightens in its chorus, but ‘River’ remains to be so soft and delicate; the music carries it along beautifully.

My adoration for Lindsay Munroe is deepening with each song I have the pleasure of hearing, and I am waiting earnestly for her debut EP release. I just know that it is going to provide the most beautiful emotional journey.

Lindsay Munroe’s Debut EP ‘Our Heaviness’ has been rescheduled for release on 19th June.

Panic Shack Release Latest Single ‘Jiu Jits You’

Panic Shack Release Latest Single ‘Jiu Jits You’

I could not love Panic Shack any more if I tried. Their fierce bad girl attitude, tongue in cheek humour and adoration for chaos, all creates an impressively powerful emerging punk band. How close they are means they are more like sisters than friends, and they are quickly becoming the band that everyone wants to know. Causing carnage with raucous live shows, and acquiring a cult following. Panic Shack have already supported infamous punks Amyl and the Sniffers, and are tearing up Cardiff’s live music scene as they go. Once you have seen Panic Shack perform at a gig, you certainly won’t forget them. A band that were born to break the rules. Combine crazily good music with an infectious amount of energy, and they are able to command a crowd and deliver a gig like no other.

Panic Shack’s debut single ‘Who’s Got My Lighter?’ was a roaring success. The band are renowned for playing a number of unreleased songs at their gigs, so fans already knew what to expect from their loud and untamed debut, and its popularity has continued to soar ever since. At Panic Shack’s headline gig in March the track had its first live outing since its release. A boisterous crowd and a night fuelled with frenzy, meant their debut hit went down a storm, and blew the roof off Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach. Since its release, the single has received airplay on a number of radio stations, including BBC Radio 1. YouTube views are racing up by the day, and streams are continuing to spiral. A lockdown is not going to reckon with the force of Panic Shack.

Today the band are releasing their latest single ‘Jiu Jits You‘. An unapologetic anthem that is as bold as its title suggests. The track tells the tale of a night out, and the idiots encountered along the way. Not shy in speaking their mind, Panic Shack do not hold back on this brilliant spoken-word story and express in no uncertain terms what they would like to do to anyone causing them trouble. In true Panic Shack style it’s all delivered in good humour, proving they are as fun as they are fierce, but you’d still be a fool to think you could mess with them.  Especially if they really do know Jiu-Jitsu!

Their ability to blend spoken word stories with rebellious punk music, provides Panic Shack with a unique edge that certainly makes them memorable. Many punk bands can spit out their lyrics with a harshness and throw themselves around a stage, but Panic Shack have a different appeal. Although rebellious and wild, they also bring in a girlish charm and there is a bubble gum pink theme surrounding them. A female-fronted punk rock band with two personalities, that clash gloriously together.

Bringing in an added element of fun with the song’s catchy chorus and shout-out chants, ensures that ‘Jiu Jits You’ really sparks to become a hit that you can sing along to. It is not for the faint hearted, but is fun and fiery, and I love that they make no apologies for that. Guitars blare, and vocals shout out to pack a punch on this screamer of an anthem.

‘Jiu Jits You’ will plant itself firmly in your mind and knock you out by how good it is. It is a very strong follow-up to Panic Shack’s debut single, that shows listeners exactly what they are all about.

Introducing Tales In The Shade: Get To Know The Band And Their Debut Single

Introducing Tales In The Shade: Get To Know The Band And Their Debut Single

New music, I hear you rejoice! It is my absolute pleasure to introduce you to your new favourite band, Tales In The Shade.

A wonderfully eclectic mix of individuals, with an incredibly expansive and exciting take on music. Hailing from Wales and the South West, Tales In The Shade have performed on and off together locally since 2018, so you may have caught them at a gig or two already. However 2020 will see them release their debut single ‘Elephant’ and I cannot even begin to express to you how great it is.

I’m sure you’re curious to know a little more about them, right?

Well, each band member brings their own unique diverse sound and style to the band, having been a part of numerous other musical outlets over the years. From an ELO tribute band to a heavy metal mash up, Tales In The Shade have the full-colour spectrum of musical influences. Such a rich variance of experience, combined with a can-do attitude and ability to perform so well together, means that Tales In The Shade have created a band of friends, as well as musicians.

The band do not label themselves as being a part of a particular genre, but would rather describe their sound as an abstract, underlying concept. Their varying thought processes and ideas collide gorgeously, to allow them to create songs that they write collaboratively through an initial brainstorming process.

Tales In The Shade breathe more life into their lyrics than your average songwriter.

Before their songs even materialise, Tales In The Shade create their own back-stories, worlds and universes for their songs to be set in. These stories give Tales In The Shade their very own dimension from which they can source characters, and an array of fantastic plot lines, as a basis for their music. Similar in a sense to the works of Creeper and Green Day, where recurring characters and storylines entwine throughout multiple songs. Who knows in the future, Tales In The Shade could have their very own Rock Opera on the way! Move over American Idiot.

The bands front man Sam Griffiths (pictured above) explains their creative approach in more detail;

“We like the idea of not telling a story in a verbatim and obvious way, but to just tell a fragment of a story, an ambiguous hint of a bigger picture. If we were to write a song set in a world of superheroes, we wouldn’t be writing about Batman, we’d be writing about the perspective of the unassuming janitor cleaning away in the next room. ‘Show and don’t tell’ can have tremendous power lyrically.”

Being a writer myself, their creative means of devising song lyrics really appeals to me, and has made the prospect of future releases incredibly intriguing. Recording their music on the brink of lockdown, Sam expressed to me how finessing their debut single within those last few precious hours was “a very profound and memorable way to experience such a devastating event.” The band have had zero human contact with one another since, but are eagerly awaiting the chance to be back in the recording studio as soon as they are able.

Twin Stranger Release Latest Single ‘Crushed’

Twin Stranger Release Latest Single ‘Crushed’

Twin Stranger are back with yet another incredibly catchy single. You may recall my adoration for them, following the release of their debut single ‘Tears Of Joy’ back in February. ‘Crushed’ has arrived with as much bold enthusiasm, and more. It’s fantastic.

‘Crushed’ has the huge capability of becoming an instantly recognisable hit, and I am beyond excited about it.

Fuelled by an amazing energy and sound that fires throughout the track. ‘Crushed’ begins by captivating the listener instantly, delivering such a glorious intensity as it bursts into life. Lead Vocalist Alex McConnachie sweep us off our feet, possessing an overwhelming confidence. I continue to be enthralled by his distinct energy. You just know that when a song hooks you within the first 10 seconds of listening, that it’s going to be special. It is clear to me that ‘Crushed’ has the huge capability of becoming an instantly recognisable hit, and I am beyond excited about it.

The track oozes vibes of sunshine, summer-time parties and dancing. It is a proper feel good song and yes, I am just a little bit in love with it already. Bringing joy in strange times, ‘Crushed’ is a song you can turn up loud, and drown out the rest of the world with. Twin Stranger have produced a gorgeously fun track that fizzes with so much life, and I honestly cannot stop listening to it.

I would describe ‘Crushed’ as an alternative type of pop-rock. It has all the power, punch and fun of a blaring pop-rock number, but is in no way overworked, or too full on. Instead its homegrown powerful presence creates something that shines. ‘Crushed’ is certainly impressive, and it’s clear to hear that every element incorporated, from vocals to melodic guitars and drums, collide perfectly together. Personally, I feel the tracks popularity will only grow the more it is heard, and it’s a song that anyone can enjoy listening to.

Despite the upbeat nature and carefree charm of ‘Crushed’, the lyrics are actually an underlying jab at the vane and egotistical sides of humanity; which you’d be forgiven for not noticing straight away. Speaking of the track Alex McConnachie expresses; “Crushed is about realising that some people you know just love listening to the sound of their own voice, and other people’s troubles and feelings only really enter their mind for a split second, then they’re gone again. On a more positive note it’s also about summer time when you’re a teenager, the days blend into one and you’re just hanging out with your friends without a care in the world, just living in the moment.”

From its vibrant sound to its sniping lyrics, ‘Crushed’ is a track that certainly makes an impact. It’s definitely a firm favourite of mine already, so you now know what I’ll be listening to non-stop this summer.

I can’t wait to hear what Twin Stranger bring us next!

Twin Stranger are a Welsh 5 piece power-pop project led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Alex McConnachie. The band’s sound is a mix of hooky bass-driven pop melodies, synth freak-outs and dreamy guitar soundscapes.

Rory Wynne Releases Latest Single ‘Roses’

Rory Wynne is the next shining star to burst out of Manchester’s flourishing music scene. Showcasing a unique blend of indie-pop, Rory is not shy in taking charge of his own music career. You’re saying hello to the writer, performer, recorder and producer of his own music, which is certainly impressive.

Already championed by the likes of Radio 1 and NME, Rory is making a bold impact, and his music speaks for itself. Upon embarking on his headline UK tour, Rory wowed avid gig goers. Since then he has secured a string of residency nights in Manchester, as well as playing a show at iconic venue, Jimmy’s.

Echoes of summer nights, and carefree fun scorch through Rory’s whimsical tracks. His latest single ‘Roses’, is another undeniable indie hit. Dusky vocals scatter like petals throughout, but Rory’s sharp lyrical capabilities soon scar us with their thorns, as the track embodies that peculiar sting from lust for love, and ghosts of mistakes that are capable of entrancing us all, especially when they relate to that one person we adore most.

Driven by want and desire, ‘Roses’ is as lyrically dreamy, as it is catchy. Rory’s passion for music is clear to hear; the track is so brilliantly put together. Following on from the release of singles ‘Future’ and ‘VCR’, I am overjoyed to share that Saytr Play have released their debut EP ‘In Truth I Fear For The Heart’ today. Saytr Play are a chaotic, brilliant burst of energy, hailing from Manchester. Rosehip Teahouse Release Beautiful New Track ‘It’s The Wrong Time’

Rosehip Teahouse Release Beautiful New Track ‘It’s The Wrong Time’

Rosehip Teahouse are back with a beautiful, woozy track written in isolation by lead vocalist Faye Rogers. Always sharing messages of positivity and kindness, Faye is a movingly brave lyricist who sings openly of our innermost human emotions and fragile experiences. Her latest track is a glowing beacon in dark times. Her vocals soar on the DIY single, and it is a delight to listen to.

A slice of indie goodness, soothing and soft. It highlights a tender, delicate subject and wraps it in sweetness.

Faye of Rosehip Teahouse has a gorgeous gift of comforting listeners through her music. ‘It’s The Wrong Time’ is about those self-destructive thoughts that often invade our minds when we are on our own, and linger. Faye has written and performed the song to raise awareness that we are not alone in encountering these frightening feelings, despite feeling like we might be, and to help those who may be struggling during such a strange period of our lives.

Everything about this song is beautiful; its vocals, its meaning, the subtle backing music. The track is simply made, but truly glows. A slice of indie goodness, soothing and soft. It highlights a tender, delicate subject and wraps it in sweetness. Faye’s voice is set against twinkling sounds from a keyboard, which compliments the serenity of her latest single, and swirls us around in a lullaby haven. Although ‘It’s The Wrong Time’ does have lyrics relating to unnerving thoughts, worry and fear woven within it, the song is subtle and so caringly delivered by Faye, it is a beautiful safety net rather than a trigger. Personally, I believe a lot of listeners will find solitude and peace within this blissfully blended track.

I commend Faye for once again having the boldness and bravery to record such a touching, emotional song and perform it with such wonderful composure.

If you enjoy listening to Rosehip Teahouse’s latest single, please do go and listen to their other singles on Spotify, and tune into any livestream sessions Faye is performing on Instagram. Often, you will be able to hear unreleased music that the band are working on, and I assure you these are equally as stunning. The band hail from Cardiff, and have performed a string of gigs locally and further afield over the years. Next time they are playing near you, it would be wonderful if you would go out and see them live. Their shows are completely mesmerising. I featured them as one on the best, emerging Welsh bands that you need to know about, back when I first started my blog in December 2019. You can read that here if you like.

Clwb Fuzz Release New Single ‘No Heaven’

Clwb Fuzz Release New Single ‘No Heaven’

Clwb Fuzz are brooding newcomers to Cardiff’s music scene, and already they are creating a buzz with their fresh, grungy, post-punk sound. The moody tones that surround this band are hot on trend at the moment, and their live performances are preceding them as they are continuing to rise in popularity amongst the live circuit. Channelling the likes of The Breeders for inspiration, Clwb Fuzz provide us with crushing basslines, sniping drums and hushed stirring lyrics from co-vocalist Emily Kocan. Today they are sharing their newly-recorded single ‘No Heaven’ with us, and it is definitely one you will want to listen to.

The track has been a favourite on their live sets already, and it went down a treat during their recent live-streamed gig with Let It Happen via Instagram. The single has been produced by Tom Rees, who has already worked with bands such as Panic Shack, and his own band Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are taking the music scene by storm. Clwb Fuzz are certainly in good hands here. ‘No Heaven’ has been released through Libertino Records, who already nurture the likes of Adwaith and Los Blancos; they are certainly off to a very promising start.

Clwb Fuzz have nailed getting the balance right between echoing wistful vocals and biting guitars in the verses of ‘No Heaven’, but it is in the build-up that we really feel co-vocalist Emily Kocan’s voice rouse our senses and throttle with its grip.

‘No Heaven’ is a churning, post-punk anthem that will leave you stunned, in the best possible way. Its lyrics are in no way delicate, and remind me of those internal screams that swirl around in our minds when it plays with choking wild thoughts and delusions. These thoughts are captured and bottled by Emily’s initially soft vocal delivery, that could almost trick you into thinking the song is nice on your first listen. When in reality it contains words that snake menacingly around your soul. The moody tension makes it all even more unnerving, but the shudders you experience are glorious. Clwb Fuzz have nailed getting the balance right between echoing wistful vocals and biting guitars in the verses of ‘No Heaven’, but it is in the build-up that we really feel co-vocalist Emily Kocan’s voice rouse our senses and throttle with its grip.

Clwb Fuzz’s menacing moody sound is completely captivating and it is clear to see from this track alone, that they are a wonderfully talented emerging young band. ‘No Heaven’ progresses stunningly well, and I can’t wait to hear more of what they have to offer. I adore how this single, that is at first quiet, wistful and eerie, evolves into a shredding-guitar track with a snarling bite, that will definitely leave a mark.

Lindsay Munroe Releases Latest Single ‘Split’

Lindsay Munroe Releases Latest Single ‘Split’

My obsession with Lindsay Munroe is growing. Her debut single ‘Mirror’ was both striking and stunning, and clearly emphasised her strength as a singer-songwriter. The single cut through with direct vocals but maintained a soft element which I was curious to hear more of. It is clear in Lindsay’s lyrics that self-reflection is key to her music. Her latest single ‘Split’ is an intimate exploration of her soul. Encased within a delicate soft vocal delivery that swept me yet again into her daydream.

Words dripping in truths wrap around your core, and soon you find yourself entranced, as though her lyrical confession is being bestowed upon you.

The gentle opening of the single, accompanied by the hum of a guitar, carries the listener away in Lindsay’s arms. Her words dripping in truths wrap around your core, and soon you find yourself entranced, as though her lyrical confession is being bestowed upon you. Lindsay’s heart wrenching agony within this song is clear to hear.  Her ability to be so open and honest as a lyricist is truly captivating, and I keenly admire Lindsay’s bravery in baring herself through her music.

‘Split’ evokes but never directly addresses its subject. We are led to believe what our mind takes us to, and somehow we reach back into our own pasts and look at what may have tormented us, through her eyes. Lindsay’s hushed nods to belief and virtues mirror an existence quietened and forced rigid by religion in its verses. However as ‘Split’ progresses, Lindsay heightens her spirit beautifully. The quiet beginning fades, as Lindsay’s confessions spiral and her anger is relinquished. The song breaks into a frenzy, and we really feel her unlock her vocal chords to take centre stage. This is the first time we also harness that euphoric rush of hearing the full band present too, which of course adds to the powerful expression exerted in this moment.

‘Split’ is honestly triumphant. Lindsay’s bold expressions of finding herself and being able to love another have been clearly captured within both of her singles now. Through music it is clear she is flourishing, and the medium allows for an exquisite outpouring of her emotions. Lindsay is utterly relatable, and I feel she will invade the hearts and minds of many within no time. The singles close is a woozy comedown, and as an emotionally depleted Lindsay concludes ‘Split’ with an unfinished sentence and soothed vocals. The final seconds of this single are painfully poignant as though she is defeated. However, I can assure you she is far from it. Lindsay Munroe is in fact, soaring.

Saytr Play Release Latest Single VCR with Music Video Made By Fans

Saytr Play Release Latest Single VCR with Music Video Made By Fans

Saytr Play are nothing shy of complete craziness. Madchester by birth and mad by nature, this band know how to make music and have a good time doing so. They thrive on loud guitar riffs, stage dives and vocals that pour from front man Fred Farrell who leads the charge. Saytr Play are a burst of energy, and always bring electricity to their live performances. Their engagement with their crowds is euphoric and as for what they do on stage, well, I’m talking climbing speakers, swinging from the ceiling, and almost anything else you can think of. I am pretty sure it won’t be long before this band become infamous for their stage antics, as well as their music.

The bands name Saytr Play is a twist on “Satyr Plays”. These were Ancient Greek tragicomedies, full of drunken antics and sexual deviance, designed to delight their audiences. Quite fitting to the playful nature of our modern-day Saytr Play, don’t you think?

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard Release Latest Single ‘Hollywood Actors’ and Announce Debut EP

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard have such a high volume of energy that they bring to all of their music.

There is no stopping Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard. Even in the strangest of times, they are still working hard alongside their record label Communion, to create music. Today the band announced not only a new single, but also joyous news of impending ‘The Non-Stop EP’ that’s scheduled for release in July. The EP has a LOT of tracks, and although it isn’t labelled as such, it’s very close to being our first album offering from the band which is incredibly exciting. One of the tracks we can expect to hear is previous single ‘John Lennon is my Jesus Christ’ from February, which I loved. The EP will also include their latest single, and classic Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard tracks ‘Double Denim Hop’ and ‘Late Night City’, besides half a dozen of new songs. Therefore we can already get a pretty good feeling of how brilliant this EP is going to be.

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard have such a high volume of energy that they bring to all of their music. This is no exception for latest single ‘Hollywood Actors’. Their flare is flawless, and once again they successfully blend in that retro rock twist, that makes anyone want to get up and dance. Although, this is the heaviest release I’ve heard from the band to date.

The electric guitar pulses throughout this track and it features a stunning solo, but the melody driving the song isn’t quite as upbeat as you would have come to expect from them. Vocals from lead singer Tom take on wider pitches, drums bite and lyrics jab at famous faces. This all combines to form a far more expansive sound for the band, and of course it is a little different, but I think it’s great to have enlightened upon this slightly darker shade of their music and progression is clearly present. Buzzard bring all of their flavour, and add a little extra spice to this track.

I am highly anticipating Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard’s EP release in July, along with their headline tour, which will now be taking place at venues across the UK in September instead of April.

Dan Burridge Releases Latest Single ‘Just Fooling Around’

Dan Burridge Releases Latest Single ‘Just Fooling Around’

A fresh burst of talent, Dan Burridge, is a young indie sensation and I absolutely adore his sound . He has a very distinct tone to his voice that you won’t be able to get enough of. I feel there is something unique about it that quickly sets him apart from others. I can picture him wrapped around a microphone, balancing off the edge of a stage, with a euphoric energy. Think an early edgy Alex Turner meets the indie pop-fizz of the likes of Declan McKenna. I have a strong inkling this guy will bring so much joy to a music hungry crowd.

‘Just Fooling Around’ is a single that will shake you up and make you feel good again. It possesses everything a great indie track should. A shredding guitar riff, a punchy bass, and a superb vocalist. I cannot big Dan’s vocals up enough on this track. Asides from that though, the instrumental backing to this song sounds tremendous, and it’s made me think that as well as being a solo artist, Dan could also slot perfectly into the role of front man in an indie-rock band if he so wished.

Previously Dan has gigged around South Wales playing acoustic sets, so ‘Just Fooling Around’ is our first taste of hearing him performing with a full band incorporated into the mix. Personally, I feel it suits him exceptionally well. Having that extra flair and spark to the music really drives not only his vocals, but his whole unique sound and style forward, and defines his music fantastically. I’ll be very interested to see how Dan develops musically, and would say he’s certainly a growing artist we should all keep in mind.

Foxxglove Releases Debut Single ‘City’

Foxxglove Releases Debut Single ‘City’

A new voice emerging in the Welsh music scene. Dark-pop artist Foxxglove has a gorgeous gift of allowing her accent to flow beautifully within her music. Embracing an alternative, grungy edge to both her vocals and overall style. Foxxglove’s unique persona really helps push her music forward, and showcases her as more than just your average pop act. There’s something so wonderfully different about her sound, and Foxxglove’s moody vibes within her music are entrancing.

Her latest single ‘City’ is a snapshot of her mind, embodying all of the feelings and emotions she experienced during a complicated and hurtful time in her life, inflicted on her by the cruel intentions of another. I find myself instinctively drawn to music within which an artist openly expresses themselves. Foxxglove certainly delivers this and more. ‘City’ is heartfelt and real. A peek through the window of her life and a very brave offering to her listeners. It is rarely an easy task to be completely bare and bold with self-expression, however Foxxglove’s canvass of reflection is wonderous to behold.

A brave new artist capable of unflinching honesty who is certainly worth listening to. Foxxglove has written and created a debut single that is completely captivating. Her voice is soothing but in no way shy, the Welsh lullaby tones I remarked upon earlier are present, but she has laced her vocal chords with a grit which tears through. There isn’t a single waiver, break, or lack of confidence present at all within her voice. This is boldly intriguing, especially given the raw nature of the lyrics. Any nerves she may hold close in everyday life seem to seep away when graced with her musical capabilities, and this is commendable.

Speaking about the track herself, Foxxglove exclaims ‘City is about the state of mind, and talks about my experience with moving from my hometown to the city. It’s about feeling hopeful and free but also lonely, it’s about finding yourself and not letting the past define who you are.’ City is enveloped by equally as moody guitar playing and backing tones which build up to the songs climatic chorus, in which Foxxglove’s freedom explodes both lyrically and vocally. The music video to accompany this single is also gorgeous, and suits the tone of the song so well.

‘City’ is a means of escapism for Foxxglove and the listener alike.

A Change of Genre – Introducing Codewalkers

A Change of Genre – Introducing Codewalkers

Since becoming more involved in my local music scene than ever before, I have been introduced to an expansive array of musical genres and styles. It has been no secret that I am a lover of indie rock music and that type of sound. However, I am not ignorant to other genres, and given the chance, will always consider and explore new music in whatever format it may be. Whether I like it or not, would be a personal preference. However shaking my music tastes up has always been intriguing to me. Therefore, when I had the chance to attend the Horizons variety gig as a part of IVW. It was a chance for me to see an array of talented musicians and performances, outside of my usual go to indie rock bracket.

One of the bands I was lucky to catch that night, were Codewalkers. A reggae, rap and rock fusion, mashed together to create an immersive, fresh and exciting sound that explodes during their live performances. Codewalkers absolutely blew the room up that night, with their energetic and vibrant set. This band commanded their crowd brilliantly well and got everyone dancing and enjoying themselves in no time, including myself. No matter what style of music you’re in to, I challenge you to watch Codewalkers live, and not end up having a smile on your face.

Codewalkers pick-a-mix style of music is superb to behold, and their personalities shine through beautifully. I always love watching a band with such character and passion performing. Codewalkers bring fun, laughter and an insane amount of energy, which shed a different light on rap, reggae and hip hop for me. They infused the genres with rock and electro-pop, creating a blend of music to suit almost everyone they possibly could.

Their latest single remix is a different take on their 2019 track Roadman. The single remix was born from a collaboration with New York Producer, King Ital Rebel. Originally hailing from Jamaica and working on a number of reggae tracks, Ital was the perfect match for Codewalkers front man Seun Babatola who has roots in Nigeria, their musical styles compliment one another and they had a lot of fun working on this latest single release.

With the remixed version of Roadman, Codewalkers are delving further again into their expansive genre collection, this time taking on the popular dancehall style, with touches of dub thrown in. Whilst I appreciate this style of music is on the rise, it is still very new to me. I can say that the sound is different and certainly interesting, but I won’t embarrass myself by attempting be the expert on it.

I’ll let you discover Codewalkers energetic sound on their latest single for yourself, if you like it, please let me and them know! The original Roadman track is definitely worth a listen too, personally I prefer this track as I’m not a huge fan of dance music. However, I can say with certain assurance that Codewalkers are definitely something special to behold live. If you get the chance, definitely go and check them out.

Porridge Radio Release Latest Single ‘Circling’

Porridge Radio Release Latest Single ‘Circling’

Circling is beautiful, raw and emotional, and what pours from it is nothing shy of exquisite.

With their album ‘Every Bad’ due to be released next week, Porridge Radio have shared another new single with us today, as anticipation builds. I have been eagerly awaiting their album release for a long time, purely for one song alone. That song was shared with us today and with it, I was awash with a tidal wave of emotion. I completely adore ‘Circling’, having heard it live for the first time last year. I became obsessed from the very start. Having held my live recording dearly for such a while, to finally hear the studio recorded version was completely mesmerising.

I look at this song through two channels. When I’m struggling I can see it through the eyes of someone with thoughts swirling and rattling through their brain, desperately reassuring themselves that everything is ok. Nothing is wrong, everything is fine. In repeating waves with increasing intensity, swaying with desperation in the longing for everything to actually be ok. When I am happy and content, this song is safety, a comfort blanket and homely, and I love it dearly. The song reminds me of summer and happiness, of being wrapped in the arms of the person I adore. When I listen to the lyrics I am content and safe, and nothing is wrong and everything is fine.

Isn’t it peculiar, how we can perceive songs differently depending on our state of minds, our moods and our feelings. This is honestly what I believe Dana and Porridge Radio have tuned into. Their songs are deep swells of heart wrenching emotion, happy and sad, in equal measures. The songs are an ode to and an advocate of mental health, and are deeply rooted in both emotional agony and emotional wellbeing. Porridge Radio sing in lulls suffering and recovery, and it is honestly glorious to behold. Lyrically and vocally the band are absolutely blooming in the most beautiful way. Each time I’ve seen them they just get better and better. Dana’s voice is unbelievable, a beacon of passion and power, that delivers her message in the most sublimely gorgeous setting.

Through Instagram, Dana describes the song, ahead of their upcoming album release. ‘A lot of the songs on Every Bad are centred around the sea, and Circling was one of the last songs focused on water that I wrote about for the album. I was thinking on the idea of willing things to be ok by repeating that they are, because I need them to be. I tried to follow the flow of waves, and how they keep coming in endlessly, washing everything away, without judgement, and then bringing it back again.’

Usually in my single reviews I will tear a song apart, dissecting it piece by piece, and share with you its sound, style and everything in between, but honestly I don’t feel that is needed here. Circling is beautiful, raw and emotional, and what pours from it is nothing shy of exquisite. Both your heart and your mind are invoked and awakened, as the tide rushes in.

We all need to go inside the sea sometimes.

If you doubt me, listen for yourself.

Porridge Radio’s album ‘Every Bad’ is due to be released on 13th March.

TJ Roberts Release New Single ‘True Secret to a Happy Life’

TJ Roberts Release New Single ‘True Secret to a Happy Life’

Following the release of their debut album in November of last year, TJ Roberts are a band on the rise. Breaking out of Cardiff’s thriving music scene, TJ Roberts mash up indie and rock to create their own truly unique sound. Championed by Libertino Records who also support award-winning Welsh band, Adwaith. TJ Roberts are certainly in safe hands, and I have no doubt that their growth as a band will be sublime.

‘True Secret to a Happy Life’ is the first of many new songs that we can expect to be released by TJ Roberts this year. It is also anticipated that these songs will culminate to form an upcoming second album release for 2020, which is seriously impressive considering their first album came out just 3 months ago. This makes TJ Roberts a hot new band that you’ll certainly want to keep your eyes on over the next few months.

Their latest single begins with a steady guitar riff that captures your attention from the offset. We are then met with a head-banging indie song that progresses in really drawing you in. You’ll be singing it in the shower, humming it at your desk in work and blaring it out of your car windows in no time, I assure you. The verses are charged with varying vocal and instrument tempos that really make your ears prick up, and clearly emphasise the capabilities of lead singer Tom, as well as the rest of the band. With a catchy chorus to follow, it’s honestly difficult not to like this song.

Lyrically, I got the initial impression that the songs delves into relationship issues and how they can affect an individual over a long period of time, however as the song develops I believe the lyrics delve into the bigger picture, as though these problems are a reflection on our current society at large.

The single is a brilliant new offering from TJ Roberts, after what has been a period of change and transition for them. ‘True Secrets to a Happy Life’ has given us a wonderful flavour of what we can expect from their album next release.

I have yet to see TJ Roberts perform live, but I’m sure that if not already, then following this new single they are not only on mine, but also many others’ radar.
